Statement Necklaces

Anyone who knows me personally, or who has followed this blog or my YouTube channel for some time, will know how much I adore statement necklaces. I feel they can add zing to your look on the days when you don't feel like playing up your make up, or are rushed for time. Not to mention perking up an otherwise simple, dare I say "bland", outfit choice. So, this post showcases some of my very favourite statement necklaces that I own. What's your take on statement necklaces: love, loathe or indifferent? Let me know!

Hippy at Heart

Hello all! I am still alive, I’ve just been swamped by my Masters dissertation. I can only apologise for my absence and thank you for those who’ve stuck by me. Enough procrastinating and apologising and on to the point of today’s blog post! Now, I am the sort of person that doesn’t really keep clothes for ‘best’ – I wear whatever I want, whenever I want, crazy British weather permitting. Sometimes, therefore, I wear things that other people would only really wear in certain situations and people give me weird looks. For example, I’ve been wanting a really pretty boho/hippy style headdress for some time. Not because I am going to a festival to wear it only once or twice, but because I like anything that adorns my head, is slightly ostentatious (my friends will vouch for this part of my personality!), and satisfies my childhood dream of feeling like a princess.

Enter the River Island feather and beaded headdress that you can see in these pictures! I was mooching about the jewellery section in River Island, saw the headdress, and then instantly fell in love with it. I had to walk out of the shop without it as, in case you missed me saying it a million times before, I’m doing an MA and have NO money of my own. I told my boyfriend about it and he went back and got it for me, because he’s a sweetheart. That was a month ago and I’ve worn it twice in that time, despite not having been anywhere special. Life’s too short to keep things for a special occasion; I just try to get my wear out of things. If I don’t think I would wear it in a variety of social or daily situations, I simply don’t buy it as I can’t afford to have unworn things in my wardrobe.

As I said, I’ve worn this twice and each time I feel as if people are looking at me as if I’m a mental patient on day release. So, what’s your take on fashion and headdresses? Would you only wear one to a festival? Or not at all? Or, like me, would you wear it and just let people think you’re bonkers? Thoughts, please!

The Mad Hatter Vol.2

Following on from last Monday's 'Mad Hatter' post, here is this weeks rendition. In case you missed that post (it can be seen by clicking here), I really love hats. I own a fair few and my boyfriend makes me try them on in shops so he can take photos. It's a weird bonding thing that we do whilst shopping. Below are just some of these amusing photos - please excuse the quality of the images as they were all taken on the boyfriends phone. More next week!

Oh yes darling! *air kiss*

Sometimes I miss my red hair. I adored
this hat but I had no money to buy it.

This is one subtle hat. You can barely tell I'm
wearing one. Sparkly electric blue top hat, anyone?

Black Tied

I know some of you will think I am being paid for this post or that I am in some way affiliated with this company; so, just to set the record straight - I am in no way affiliated, I have never received a free product from them, and they don't know I exist. I just wanted to share their products with you as they caught my eye. Despite being a regular lurker on ASOS (no money to buy, remember!), I hadn't come across the Black Tied boutique until I saw them mentioned on Lily's blog post in which she was wearing the most amazing cross bracelet. I fell in love, have lurked on their site, and wished that I could get my hands on that bracelet ever since. Alas, I have literally no income and am living off the kindness of others (and my savings) until my postgraduate studies are over in September. Maybe then I will find my dream job and earn money so I can buy pretty, shiny things like this lovely online boutique sells. Gutted. Still, here are some of my favourites (I hope the company don't mind me using their photo's for this! The copyright for them belongs to Black Tied, obviously).

The Littlest Misfit

Today I wanted to wear my drop-hemmed skirt (not sure if this is the fashion term for it, but that's what I call it! It's longer at the back than the front). I decided to team it with a rock tee of some persuasion as I fancied rocking it up and wearing a smokey eye today too. I dug out this Misfits one as I don't wear it often due to its highly unflattering shape (I plan on cutting the neck to make it off-the-shoulder at some point). And thus is my thought process. I don't suppose many of you will like this outfit as it's not exactly fashion-forward, but I thought I would share it nonetheless as rocking it up is something I do from time to time - probably as a way of holding onto my youth when I was a "goth".
